Gone Swimmin'
This is Gar Hole, a popular swimming hole near War Eagle, Arkansas. You can jump off the rocks into the deep chilly creek water, or just lay around on the shores and watch the people swim. It also has a fantastic roap swing that gives you some serious airtime if you swing from the highest perch.
But danger lurks at this swimming hole as we found out one day. Jim's cousin Jennifer came down from Oregon for a visit. Not being accustomed to the hot July weather, she asked if we knew a good place to go swimming. We said yes and piled her and her two kids and husband into the truck and headed to Gar Hole.

After that frightening day at Gar Hole, we didn't return for the rest of the summer. It just seemed too creepy. But finally, in the spring of 2001, we decided to give the ol' swimming hole one more try. The day was uneventful and relaxing. Here's some pictures from that lazy afternoon at the creek.
Scoping out the creek-shore for a place to stretch out.
Me contemplating getting into the chilly water.
This is the low-water bridge that Jennifer got pulled under.
Ian and Terry whining about how chilly the water is.
Jim is being morbid and daring to swim all the way underneath the low-water bridge and come out the other side.
Coming out the other side.
Hey, something keeps biting me.
Wishing I had put sunscreen on my head.
Looking like Fabio.
